Negative vs. Positive (#3)

Consumers now-a-days have the largest influence on how a product/service will be seen by the world.  The reason behind all this power is simple, the Internet.  All it takes is for one fault to set a consumer off and just know your product/service will be plastered somewhere on the internet with that fault exposed to all.  Consumer behavior is very important to any organization, you want whatever it is that you bring to the table to be seen as “Amazing” to potential buyers.  It’s a proven study that satisfied customers are most likely to tell 3 people about what it is they bought and dissatisfied customers are more likely to tell 9 people about what they bought.
I noticed that on my Facebook as of recently the Empire State Building has been trending because of something it’s done recently.  Even for those who don’t watch baseball you might have heard that the legend Derek Jeter just played his last game in the Bronx.  The “Captain” as he’s known in my hometown is represented by Nike, their campaign titled Re2pect has been recognized around the world because Nike’s innovative ways of thinking.  The Empire State Building was light up in the traditional blue and white pinstripe pattern this past Sunday to show respect to Derek Jeter, if you ask me this is very prestigious.  To have the Empire State Building, a building that’s recognized by people around the world tribute your retirement you know you did something right in your life.  Not only is this a prestigious honor for Derek Jeter this is also a great segment into consumer behavior.  After the Empire State Building tweeted about its tribute to the Captain it went viral helping the success of Nike on the Re2pect campaign.  After millions have seen (literally & virtually) the respect shown for this man consumers will be more augmented to buy anything with the number 2 and a Yankee logo, which will always have that Nike logo on it as well.

Another think that has been trending over the past week on my Facebook and other various Social Media and news stations is about a particular product that’s just been released.  As cliche as this segment feels at the moment; yes I’m talking about the iPhone 6.  As you all know when new technology first comes out it’s in what we call the “beta” stage for about the first 6 months.  What this means is the consumers are actually the final testers of the product.  Since it’s new to them they will test its limitations and ultimately catching whatever faults fell through the cracks via the initial release.  The problem with the iPhone 6 in my opinion is something that should have been caught from the very first day.  In their new attempts of innovation to keep their brand loyalty apple has made their phone’s a tad too sleek in my opinion, there have been numerous complaints about the phone bending.  This isn't something that’s having a positive effect on Consumer Behavior dealing with apple at the moment, like I said before if a customer isn't satisfied their more likely to tell 9 people about what went wrong for them.  In the case of the iPhone 6 when this fault was revealed it went viral instantly making way more noise on my Facebook page than the Empire State Building.  For majority of last week when I went on YouTube, on the home screen there was a video with the title “iPhone 6 bend test.”  This alone is an indication of how negative news retaining to your product/service can sway Customer Behavior.   It’s interesting to see how Apple responds to the negative response to their product, right now it seems their more on the defensive side sticking to their manufacturing but who knows that might change depending on the severity of Consumer Behavior.
