Negative vs. Positive (#3)

Consumers now-a-days have the largest influence on how a product/service will be seen by the world.  The reason behind all this power is simple, the Internet.  All it takes is for one fault to set a consumer off and just know your product/service will be plastered somewhere on the internet with that fault exposed to all.  Consumer behavior is very important to any organization, you want whatever it is that you bring to the table to be seen as “Amazing” to potential buyers.  It’s a proven study that satisfied customers are most likely to tell 3 people about what it is they bought and dissatisfied customers are more likely to tell 9 people about what they bought.
I noticed that on my Facebook as of recently the Empire State Building has been trending because of something it’s done recently.  Even for those who don’t watch baseball you might have heard that the legend Derek Jeter just played his last game in the Bronx.  The “Captain” as he’s known in my hometown is represented by Nike, their campaign titled Re2pect has been recognized around the world because Nike’s innovative ways of thinking.  The Empire State Building was light up in the traditional blue and white pinstripe pattern this past Sunday to show respect to Derek Jeter, if you ask me this is very prestigious.  To have the Empire State Building, a building that’s recognized by people around the world tribute your retirement you know you did something right in your life.  Not only is this a prestigious honor for Derek Jeter this is also a great segment into consumer behavior.  After the Empire State Building tweeted about its tribute to the Captain it went viral helping the success of Nike on the Re2pect campaign.  After millions have seen (literally & virtually) the respect shown for this man consumers will be more augmented to buy anything with the number 2 and a Yankee logo, which will always have that Nike logo on it as well.

Another think that has been trending over the past week on my Facebook and other various Social Media and news stations is about a particular product that’s just been released.  As cliche as this segment feels at the moment; yes I’m talking about the iPhone 6.  As you all know when new technology first comes out it’s in what we call the “beta” stage for about the first 6 months.  What this means is the consumers are actually the final testers of the product.  Since it’s new to them they will test its limitations and ultimately catching whatever faults fell through the cracks via the initial release.  The problem with the iPhone 6 in my opinion is something that should have been caught from the very first day.  In their new attempts of innovation to keep their brand loyalty apple has made their phone’s a tad too sleek in my opinion, there have been numerous complaints about the phone bending.  This isn't something that’s having a positive effect on Consumer Behavior dealing with apple at the moment, like I said before if a customer isn't satisfied their more likely to tell 9 people about what went wrong for them.  In the case of the iPhone 6 when this fault was revealed it went viral instantly making way more noise on my Facebook page than the Empire State Building.  For majority of last week when I went on YouTube, on the home screen there was a video with the title “iPhone 6 bend test.”  This alone is an indication of how negative news retaining to your product/service can sway Customer Behavior.   It’s interesting to see how Apple responds to the negative response to their product, right now it seems their more on the defensive side sticking to their manufacturing but who knows that might change depending on the severity of Consumer Behavior.

Where It’s At. (#2)

Demographics play a large role in where companies market their product/services.  A good example of this and probably a conversation that gets under my skin a little is on the subject of sneakers.

A side note for this blog.  If you who know me then you know I do show brand loyalty when it comes to sneakers, I like Jordan.  It’s my preference and I wish we could all just leave it at that.

Back on topic and going off of my favorite sneaker brand, Jordan is a company who markets its brand as superior.  The prices speak for themselves when you purchase something with a Jump Man logo; also it isn’t too often that you see a Jordan Brand commercial now that I think about it.  Nike on the other hand is a company that is superior but unlike Jordan they’re products pricing is more ‘consumer friendly.’  The reason behind this is because of the difference in culture to which each company market’s their product to.  Even though everyone is different specifically we all share similarities depending on who we are (professionally & personally), and where we live.  Jordan is a brand that markets their product in areas that are largely populated for example New York and Chicago (keep in mind this isn’t implying that you can only find this product in major city areas, it’s just marketed to these places more).  Nike on the other hand can be found just about everywhere because they are the more superior brand as we all know.  The mission statement of Jordan Brand is probably the funniest that I’ve ever heard it says “Jordan brand aims to capitalize on past success, while using new opportunities to achieve ‘Greatness,’ such as Michael Jordan.”  It’s really funny for me but you can see how they try to exhibit superiority with their language.  Nike’s mission statement actually demonstrates their superiority, it reads a “To bring inspiration. And innovation to every athlete* in the world.” That is what I consider a very broad and bold mission.  Nike has its focus on a totally different aspect in comparison to Jordan, they want to help athlete’s grow and prosper through their organization

I do have to add.  I feel like this is a bash towards Jordan and it’s really not.  Please be mindful of that.  It’s just the truth.

Jordan brand markets their product as stylish giving you a variety of styles with their own individual color ways that project an image that people have to acknowledge for its artwork.  Also their reputation has grown to being more rare and spontaneous with their growing practice of limited edition releases, they ensure to customers that their product is high quality otherwise you wouldn’t pay the amount that you do. Remember this is a sneaker for basketball players that show to improve your abilities because majority of the style’s that exist (not referencing the colors) were worn by Michael Jordan.  Now they’re introducing these color ways that make the sneaker more marketable to the urban millennial generation.  That plus their limited edition releases where they only use statistically favored styles is another strategic marketing plan that is used to market to the urban millennial generation creating the image of prestige.  Nike on the other hand has a totally different approach to how they market their products.  They target the top athletes from a variety of sports to help campaign as the best by using their high quality products.  This will translate to consumers as ‘this product is really good and will last for a long time.’  And this works for Nike because they’re products never fail making their services the best of quality as well.  Nike is superior for as long as their products stay superior, Jordan brand will continue to be favored by the urban millennial generation for as long as their marketing strategy can hold up.

Since the top of today was based around athletes, and being the loyal Jordan Brand customer you probably could have figured that I am a basketball fan.  With that being said I know the gaming community who share the same EA Sports passion that I do can't wait for the release of NBA 2K15 which is right around the corner.  In the gaming company like Nike, 2K is the superior product in the subject of sports games, their products are always improving and exceeding expectations.  Here's the trailer for NBA 2K15 coming out October 7th.

What is Marketing? (#1)

http://www.forbes.com/sites/sap/2012/08/09/what-is-marketing/

If you want to be technical about it marketing is defined as "the action or business of promoting and selling products or services, including market research and advertising."  You can base your understanding of marketing off of these terms or you can take a more relaxed perspective and look at it the way Forbes see's it.  Marketing is a tool that is very important to the business world.  In order for a business to be successful one of their main components will be marketing because we all know, no product or service is good without consumers. Most people when they think of marketing they only think of television ads which isn't wrong but is only a very small portion of what marketing actually entails.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/sap/2012/08/09/what-is-marketing/

Marketing techniques have evolved over the years and is now seen more on social media sites as opposed to 20 years ago when marketing was only seen in news papers, on television, on billboards and so forth.  Today you see multiple advertisements on your Facebook, Twitter, Vine, and Google.  What people fail to realize is Marketing is used in our everyday life's and not just because we see it everywhere either.  If you think about it we market on a daily basis ourselves, for example when you convince your friends to do something you think would be fun, that right there is marketing, your selling your idea to your friends. We just know it by a different word "persuasion." Not only does marketing affect our lives in this way but also just talking to people about a common interest can be seen as a marketing technique I don't know about any of you but I definitely went out to buy an item or two after having talked to a friend about the details of the product and how it worked for them.
Hope you guys enjoy my art =)!!

Word of mouth is probably the oldest form of marketing.  People are definitely more prone to trying something new after consulting it with someone close to them rather than reading about it from an ad they saw on youtube. You have to be aware of how marketing is all around you because you never know when your going to be the one in the hot seat trying to figure out how your going to market something of interest to you.

Enough about marketing lets talk about me a little bit! So I'm Ty and you'll be getting a couple of these cool informative blogs about marketing from me over the next couple of months.  This is me working on an assignment for class but also enjoying every minute of it because Marketing is suppose to also be fun in conjunction with being beneficial.  So I hope you all enjoy the information that I have to offer and please tell your friends to follow, PLEASE MARKET MY BLOG!! Thanks you guys are all amazing beautiful people.
